Gutter Cleaning Robot

If you are like me, you hate cleaning litter boxes. I have seen a lot of ads recently for automatic litter boxes and have researched two of the most talked about brands. The following article is a comparison of the Litter Robot and Littermaid automatic litter boxes.

Round 1: Cleaning mechanisms

The Littermaid uses a rake system to scrape through the litter and deposit it into a waste receptacle. There have been several consumer complaints about the weakness of the motor and the rakes breaking easily. Clumps of cat litter can get stuck on the rakes which can cause jams.

The Litter Robot uses a turning globe that sifts the litter and drops it into a waste receptacle in the bottom. The sifter is kind of like a sieve. Because there are no rakes there is less potential for jamming. Litter Robot owners tend to be happier with the sifting mechanism and have less complaints.

Round 2: Dumping The Litter

The Littermaid drops the waste into a plastic receptacle which you can easily throw out. The only downfall is that you have to pay for the containers which means recurring cost after you buy. With the Litter Robot you pull out the waste drawer and throw out the garbage bag. You can replace the bag with a regular trash bag. Both machines make it very easy to dispose of the litter. The Littermaid containers are slightly easier to throw out and put in, but the cost can add up with time.

Round 3: Price

Ranging in price from about $115-$160, the Littermaid is the cheaper option. At $299 the Litter Robot may seem a bit pricey. With the Litter Robot you do not need to buy expensive waste receptacles so that is a plus.

No matter which one you choose, the cost can be well worth it! I would pay almost anything not to have to clean the litter boxes every day. Overall, I recommend the Litter Robot because of the more stable cleaning mechanism and less consumer complaints. While it is more expensive the Litter Robot tends to have a longer life span before breaking.
